Jamacia Jackson was born September 9, 1981 in Sumter SC. As a highly touted recruit coming out of Sumter High School, he signed to play under Lou Holtz and be a University of South Carolina Gamecock. He went on to be a standout member of the University of South Carolina’s football team from 2000-2004. After redshirting his freshman year, he went on to be a four-year letterman, a two-year starter, and amassed over 250 career tackles. After leaving USC, he pursued a professional football career playing for the Berlin Thunder of the NFL Europe, NY Giants of the NFL, and finally the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL.

Jamacia was truly an unforgettable person. He was known for his unlimited supply of energy and his ability to make anyone smile or laugh during any situation. His presence would change the energy and mood in any room. A true friend to all and an enemy to none, Jamacia was one of God’s special children.

On April 15, 2008 Jamacia unexpectly passed away in his sleep. In the purest form of irony, the man who many considered to have the biggest heart died from an irregular heartbeat caused by an enlarged heart.

Jamacia was a vital part of the Gamecock family. He represented everything it meant to be a Gamecock: Trustworthy, Caring, and Committed. Those values and his memories will live on through The Jamacia Jackson Scholarship, which will be given annually to a deserving walk on football player at the University of South Carolina.
