Flag!

Future Leaders, Active Girls

Flag football is booming, with nearly 500,000 girls aged 6-17 participating last year—a 63% increase since 2019. As flag football surges in popularity, particularly as a newly added event for the LA28 Olympics and Paralympics, The Huddle launched a dynamic new program, FLAG! Future Leaders, Active Girls, to help pave the way for future leaders within the sport. FLAG! aims to empower and inspire girls in flag football, make the sport more accessible, and build valuable leadership skills for players and coaches.

We hosted our first FLAG! event in Sao Paulo, Brazil ahead of American football's debut in South America, with the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers making history on September 6, 2024. This two-part day featured a mental health and gender equity summit for coaches and an elite skills and leadership clinic for girls, ages 12-16.

Research shows that sport participation among girls drastically declines at age 13, yet the benefits of playing sports include:

Confidence & empowerment

Playing sports helps girls step out of their comfort zones, build resilience and gain confidence.

Teamwork & leadership

Sport promotes collaboration and communication, and teaches girls to lead with compassion and work as a team in a competitive environment.

Physical fitness & well-being

Girls who play sport experience fewer symptoms related to depression and anxiety and reduced risk of chronic illness, and develop healthier habits.

FLAG! is getting more girls in the game and providing them with skills that will benefit them for a lifetime!
